A North American aster native to prairie communities, shrubs, and forest edges in the eastern regions of the USA. It prefers fertile, well-drained, rather non-drying soils. However, it also tolerates heavier soils with a higher proportion of clay particles. Most varieties can be described as more or less trouble-free and long-lived perennials. Easily propagated by dividing clumps in the spring, or by propagating stem cuttings in June.
It is also well suited for carpet plantings.
Some varieties are susceptible to powdery mildew.Site circles FR2 - open areas with fresh soil, B2 - beds with fresh soil.
