The original species is abundant in many parts of Europe and Asia. It can be found in meadows, clearings, or light forests. It is a perennial herb spreading with creeping, rooting runners.
Plants usually bloom from the end of May to the beginning of July. The color of the flowers is purple, blue, pink, white. The height at the time of flowering is 10-20cm. The leaves are evergreen, glossy. The color varies depending on the cultivar (from pure green to reddish-brown or multicolored).
Plants can be used in full sun as well as in partial shade. It is primarily cultivated as a ground cover plant. Prefers moderately heavy, permeable soils.
