The botanical species is widely found in a number of areas in Eurasia. It primarily inhabits drier, rather short-grass meadows. Plants form looser clumps and spread through semi-creeping rhizomes.
Plants bloom from the end of May to July. Some varieties can repeat flowering after trimming the faded stems. The height at the time of flowering reaches approximately 40-80cm (depending on the variety). Varieties bloom in colors: white, cream, pink, orange, red, purple, and their shades. Plants prefer a sunny location with well-drained, rather dry soil. Persistence at the site depends a lot on the location and the chosen variety. Generally, these are rather short-lived plants that need to be propagated every 3-4 years. Propagation is possible by dividing clumps and taking cuttings of sprouting shoots.
