| A perennial herb originating from the Mediterranean region. It naturally occurs in sunny to partially shaded habitats, particularly in dry shrublands, at the edges of forests, and on rocky slopes. She likes lowland and foothill areas, where it grows at altitudes up to 800 m. n. m. The plant forms massive clumps of large, glossy, deeply lobed leaves that can reach a length of up to 1 meter. The leaves are deep green, leathery, and their distinctive shape resembles a bear's paw. The total height of the plant, including the flower stalks, can reach up to 1.5 meters. From May to August, it blooms with upright, spike-like inflorescences composed of pinkish to white-purple flowers with prominent bracts. Flowers are popular with pollinators such as bees and butterflies, and they give the plant a decorative appearance throughout the summer. It requires very well-drained soil, tolerates drought better than waterlogged ground. Habitat circle GR2 - forest edge with fresh to moist soil |
