Description Acaena microphylla ‘Kupferteppich’
The original plant comes from New Zealand. It naturally occurs in both lowland and mountainous areas (up to 1,500 m a.s.l.). m.), especially in open grassy areas, in shrubs, or on rocky sites. It often inhabits exposed habitats where it tends to be windy and cold.
Creates 10–15 cm high ground cover and spreads cushion-like at the site. The leaves are pinnate, bronze-green in color. In the summer period, specifically from June to August, it blooms with small purplish-red flowers, which gradually transform into spiny fruits, giving the plant its characteristic appearance even after flowering.
Has no special requirements. Prefers sunny to partially shaded locations and well-drained, poorer, rather dry soil. It is frost-resistant and non-retracting.
This is an endemic plant.
